What is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy is a process in which one person (the client) meets with a trained mental health professional (the therapist) to discuss and work through situations or emotions which have been difficult for or challenging to the client. The client and the therapist meet periodically:

  • to discuss the client?s feelings, beliefs, or behaviors
  • to identify aspects the client would like to change in their life
  • to better understand themselves and others
  • to set personal goals
  • to work toward desired change

The therapist uses different approaches and techniques to facilitate the session.

What is Group Psychotherapy and how does it work?

Group psychotherapy is a form of therapy in which one or more therapists facilitate a small number of people together as a group. The group process is usually a catalyst for change. People can bring issues or personal aspects they wish to work on to the group. They may discover that many others share the same issues. A participant may talk about events that occurred during the week and their response to the event. The group can become the source of strength, support and feedback for the participant in order to help them develop more constructive ways of dealing with issues in their day to day life.

What is Relationship Counselling?

Relationship counseling is the process of counseling the individuals within a relationship to recognize, understand and appreciate their individual gifts, differences and areas of tension. Examples of the kinds of relationships that might seek counseling may involve:

  • members of a family
  • a committed couple
  • a couple dating
  • employees and employers in a workplace
  • two people in a friendship

How long are individual sessions?

We offer 1 hour sessions or 1 1/2 to 2 hour sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

This is unique to each individual and their specific needs. We work in a client-centered way and believe the client knows best what will be of benefit to them from session to session, thus determining the duration of the therapeutic relationship.

What if I have to cancel?

Similar to most professions, a 24-hour cancellation policy is in place. Without sufficient notice, you will be charged the full amount for your appointment. The exception to this is illness or bad weather or an unforeseen emergency.

Is psychotherapy or counselling covered by OHIP?

No, however if you have private insurance, check to see if psychotherapy or counselling is covered under your plan.

Process Facilitation provides a set of skills that assists groups to navigate the challenges of change within themselves and within their organizations. Process is the part that is happening within the group. Appropriate tools, methods and techniques are used to design activities that assist the group in understanding their own process.

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu®?

Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in mind, body and spirit.

Jin Shin Jyutsu brings balance to the bodies energy, promoting optimal health and wellbeing in turn facilitating our own profound healing capacity. A Jin Shin Jyutsu session generally last about an hour. It does not involve massage, manipulation of muscles or use of drugs or substances. It is a gentle art, practiced by placing the finger tips (over clothing) on designated safety energy locks, to harmonize and restore the energy flow. Focusing orientated psychotherapy allows people total control of the pace and the direction of their healing journey. It is particularly effective in the treatment and healing of Post Traumatic Stress caused by accident, sexual, physical and emotional abuse and neglect.
